About Gate Valves
Gate valves, also known as “sluice valves”, are very common valves seen in many piping systems. Gate valves are used to open up or close off the flow of water, oil, or other liquid.
Typically constructed of metal like iron or steel, gate valves have a large exposed surface through which heat can radiate. Many facilities have rather large numbers of gate valves in use, resulting in massive energy loss in many instances.
Insulating Gate Valves
Gate valves may often require maintenance to prevent or troubleshoot such issues as jamming in open or closed position, rust and corrosion, and leaking. Typical maintenance tasks may include lubrication, cleaning, and replacing seats and other inner components. Due to the need for maintenance and the irregular shape of gate valves, traditional stay-in-place insulation is not practical, therefore requiring a removable product.
